The Latest and Greatest: Spectubular Technologies Develops Manufacturing Process that Delivers Filter Tubes with Slots as Small as 10 Microns

AFS Corporate Sponsor Spectubular Technologies, a division of Synfuels Americas, has developed a proprietary, fully automated manufacturing process that creates filter tubes with some of the smallest slots available on the market. Using a patented precision laser cutting process, the Spectubular production line creates tube filters with slots as small as 10 microns, making it especially useful for the manufacturing of pre-filtration, post-filtration and other micron filtration applications.

The Spectubular filter tubes offer several advantages over competing technologies:

  1. As compared to wire mesh or sintered metal wiremedia, filter tubes can serve as both filters and support structures, eliminating the need for additional framework.
  2. Spectubular’s stainless steel filter tubes are resistant to corrosion, pressure and high temperatures, and more durable than other media used in similar applications.
  3. Because the tubes are made from a single thin layer, they are easier to clean than wire mesh or sintered metal media. Cleaning Spectubular filter tubes takes less time, reduces production downtime and requires less energy for backwashing, contributing to a company’s goals for emissions reduction.
  4. Filter tubes require less material to produce than an equivalent mesh filter, making them less expensive.
  5. Filter tubes made by the Spectubular Technologies production line offer some of the smallest slots available, making them ideal for extending the filtration capacity for existing processes.

Developed originally for the energy industry, the company quickly identified many other industries and applications that could benefit from small-slot filter tubes and support energy-efficient filtration.

Spectubular Technologies’ full production system includes incoming inspection, laser cutting, post-processing and outgoing inspection components. Any combination of these components can be integrated into an existing production system, and production lines can be customized for the needs of a wide range of filter manufacturers. The manufacturing process can accommodate the production of higher porosity, smaller slots, custom slot shapes and complex geometries.
