New AFS Short Course: Regulatory Requirements and Classifications of Facemasks and Respirators

The AFS is presenting the short course, “Am I Using the Right Mask? How to Understand Regulatory Requirements and Classifications of Facemasks and Respirators,” which will be taught by Matthew McGarrity, industry expert in respirators and medical PPE.

This course will help attendees gain a fundamental understanding of the medical mask and respirator industry. It will also provide must-know information about usage, regulatory and test methods to anyone who aspires to learn more than the basic information about medical masks and respirators. It is especially useful for those who are interested in this market, as this course will provide the information needed to make an informed decision about possible market entry.

About the Instructor

Matthew McGarrity has been in testing, inspection and certification for over 10 years and specializes in regulatory, industry and quality requirements. His areas of focus are respirators and medical PPE such as gowns, gloves and surgical masks.

Matt earned his Bachelor of Science in Energy, Business and Finance from Pennsylvania State University. He is a member of standard development organizations and groups that publish and maintain medical device specifications and related methods such as:

  • ASTM International (Committee F15 Consumer Products & F23 Personal Protective Clothing and Equipment)
  • AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation
  • AATCC (American Association of Textile Chemists & Colorist), and
