Dr. Mayer is a Senior Level Consultant specializing in Solid/Liquid Separation (SLS) technology since 1980.  His work with the DuPont Company of Wilmington, Delaware has spanned 40 years with special projects and successes in filter media developments, waste water treatment, process filtrations, and overall process testing, development, specification, implementation, and startup.

In 2009, Dr. Mayer formed a consulting company specializing in general filtration technology including application testing.

Dr. Mayer has received numerous awards for his work. Examples include Tau Beta Pi, Sigma Xi, Deans’ Lists, three Engineering Excellence Awards, seven Environmental Respect Awards, Class ‘A’ bonus recognized by the DuPont Company as a highly prestigious technical award, the AFSS Frank Tiller Award in 1996, the AFSS Fellow Award in 2000, and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2005 (the first non-academic to receive it).  He is a member of AWWA, AIChE, WEF, and AFSS and has been on the Board of Directors since 1988 for AFSS as well as the Chairman of Chapter Affairs/Users Committee.  He has organized and chaired three technical conferences and Co-chaired the World Filtration Congress in 2004.

Holding two patents and having published more than two hundred papers, Dr. Mayer is listed in Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in Science and Environmental Technology. In 1991, a remediation technology that he developed was accepted into the EPA SITE program.  At the request of President Jimmy Carter, he was asked to participate in the Three-Mile Island nuclear cleanup in 1980.

Ernest received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Columbia University, NY and his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware.  He has been an instructor in various educational seminars, lectures, and short courses at DuPont, various DuPont design contractors, The University of Pittsburgh, and at AFSS annual conferences.
