Manager of the Membrane R&D group:
GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Manager of the Membrane R&D group, will be responsible for its personnel and the coordination of all operations and interactions in support of membrane R&D projects for Pall Biopharm membrane filtration applications area, as well as conducting technology development projects focused on membranes or materials.
Responsibilities:
- Developing new membrane materials to support product development in Pall Biopharm business.
- Developing new manufacturing technologies and/or processes to enable the manufacturing of new membranes.
- Membrane process scale-up from laboratory to production line.
- Membrane material and process qualification and transfer to manufacturing.
- Support the development of new membrane product configuration devices.
- Providing technical support manufacturing trouble shooting and process improvement.
- Providing technical consultation to COR’s.
- Maintaining and managing R&D laboratory operations related to, but not limited to, space, equipment, calibration, safety, schedule, and overall efficiency.
- Managing R&D project and resources under Pall LS PCP guidelines.
- Supervise Membrane R&D staff.
- Provide career development guidance to Membrane R&D staff.
- Manage the daily operations of R&D in an efficient manner so that project time-lines are met.
- Promote collaborations and coordination’s between R&D and other functions of the company.
- Develop project management and project leadership capabilities among R&D staff.
- Manage the development, validation and implementation of new assays for the characterization of membranes.
Requirements:
- B.S. degree or higher in Polymer materials, or Polymer Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering. A strong knowledge base in polymeric membrane manufacturing membrane-based separations, and protein chemistry and at least 5 years of “hands-on” industrial experience in polymeric material processing.
- Hands-on familiarity and skills in membrane science, surface modifications, and membrane process.
- This is primarily a hands-on managerial position, requiring close collaboration with external/internal customers, and R&D personnel from diverse backgrounds. It may include some time spent working directly in the lab. The ability to maintain close personal interactions with management, peers, and subordinates is essential.
- Ability to work independently, once given the goals of an assignment, without continuous supervision.
- Excellent writing skills, since written reports and memos on research findings are important documentation for this position, and be able to effectively present of technical information in internal and external meetings.

R&D Manager
Developing new applications, supporting applications-based testing of new and existing products and supporting customers on technical complex issues. Position will focus on a particular application area within the entire downstream purification process. This is a management position in Biopharmaceutical R&D requiring several years of project management and scientific experience at the Masters level or equivalent. Responsible for initiating/leading development programs within the particular applications area that are aligned with business goals and objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Plans, develops, and manages major application-based initiatives, programs and project within assigned area of the Life Sciences business objectives.
- Manager and staff support new product development including team participation, alpha and beta site test management, product use training during new product launch within assigned area.
- Contributes to building a strong intellectual property portfolio for the Life Sciences Group in the assigned application area.
- Investigates, uses and exploits new areas of research or technology offering opportunity and economic advantage to the Life Sciences Group.
- Analyzes and evaluates commercial, and academic literature and patents of special interest to the Life Sciences Group and uses this information to provide recommendations which can lead to major product improvements or strategic positioning of the Life Sciences Group’s current products over that of its competitors.
- Forms relationship with marketing, sales, technical services and external customers in order to develop application specific performance requirements or the validation requirements for new products in assigned areas.
- Develop technical positions for proposed evaluation tests for products and/or processes when precedents are lacking requiring a broad knowledge of the product and material, together with a thorough theoretical understanding of the principles and practices of the specific application.
Requirements:
- Masters, or equivalent education and in-depth technical experience within Pall or outside in Biopharmaceutical downstream processing including chromatographic purification or membrane separation.
- Current, state-of-the-art knowledge in Biotechnology downstream processing.
- Must have 6-8 years experience having demonstrated a high degree of competency managing projects within defined parameters.
This position is located in Northborough, MA.
