Chapter Involvement
It has been stated many times that local, regional chapters of the American Filtration and Separations Society (AFSS) are the life-blood for any national organization providing leaders and members. In addition, local chapter meetings provide an excellent low-cost avenue to interact with one’s peers and to network for both technical knowledge as well as job opportunities. Therefore, getting involved in AFSS’s chapters is a win-win preposition for both members, potential members and future leaders in AFSS. These one-day chapter meetings usually involve three or four informative talks by knowledgeable and experienced filter people, a networking lunch, and a tour of the host company’s facility in non-confidential areas.
Successful past meetings have been held at the following locations:
Agrilectric Research Company, Lake Charles, LA;
Ahlstrom, Windsor Locks, CT;
Passaic Valley Sewage Commission (PVSC), Newark NJ;
Penn State University, State College, PA;
Porous Materials, Inc., Ithaca, NY;
Savannah River National Laboratory, Aiken, SC;
Sono Bond, West Chester, PA;
University of Massachusetts Advanced Technology & Manufacturing Center, Fall River, MA;
University of Tennessee, Knoxville, TN;
W.L. Gore & Associates, Newark, DE;
As can be seen these meetings cover a broad array of filtration interests and technologies, so "get involved”.
Future meetings are planned for the Mid-Atlantic, Empire, New England, and Southwest Chapters in the spring of 2009. And, I encourage any interested “Filter person” to get active and host a meeting in his/her regional area. For assistance in getting a regional chapter organized, please contact:
