Donaldson Company Earns California Verification
Extension FOR 1988-1990 Heavy-Duty Diesel Engines
MINNEAPOLIS - October 12, 2004 - Donaldson Company Inc. (NYSE: DCI), today announced that the California Environmental Protection Agency's Air Resources Board (ARB) has verified its Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) Muffler with Series 6000 catalyst formulation alone and with the SpiracleTM Crankcase Filtration System for specific 1988 through 1990 model year diesel engines used in on-road applications operating on standard ARB or lower sulfur content diesel fuel. The systems employ either a DOC alone or a DOC with a crankcase filtration system to achieve at least a 25 percent reduction (Level 1) in particulate matter emissions.

"This broadens the application coverage for this technology approach to now include 1988-2002 model year engines. This also enables end-users to apply a common technology across their fleet - the broadest range of engine model years for any technology."
Under the ARB's Diesel Risk Reduction Plan (DRRP), approximately 1.25 million diesel engines in California are candidates for retrofitting with technology like the Donaldson DOC muffler and Spiracle crankcase filter system. Such technology is designed to significantly reduce the emission of diesel particulate matter - the tailpipe exhaust emitted by diesel engines. The combined DOC muffler/Spiracle filter system
reduces engine particulate matter emissions by 26 to 50 percent, meeting ARB Level 1 standards requiring greater than 25 percent reduction. To gain ARB approval, Donaldson Company completed rigorous engine and field tests to ensure the emission-reduction system met performance and durability requirements.
