A flocculator is the device in which flocculation is carried out, usually external and separate to where filtration or separation occurs. The flocculant is delivered to the flocculator with a dosing pump whereupon it is mixed with the feed. Flocculator types include the Couette (concentric cylinders with one rotating), paddle and pipe/in-line (which often includes a spiral insert).
